(This was taken from the thread on G-Dar's Capture.....and I just wanted to keep it here for futher use in the future.)

I would just like to clear up a few misconceptions about panthers.... slaves of Panthers....Men and Panthers....Captives of Panthers.....and how captives were traded back to the City.
#1 - Panther Women are Outlaws. Outlaws have rejected the normal rules of society. Outlaws are anyone that is not a slave, or claims a homestone. Panther women are wild. Outlaws make thier own rules....and are often hamstrung or impaled when captured.
Thusly.....a Panther Woman would not care if the man was a Singer or not. He is a man. He invaded what they consider to be thier territory...and he was captured.
...There were only three statuses conceivable to the Gorean mind outside of the caste system: slave, outlaw, and Priest-King. A man who refused to practice his livelihood or strove to alter status without the consent of the Council of High Castes was, by definition, an outlaw and subject to impalement.
---Tarnsman of Gor, 3:45-46
"Who are you?" asked Marlenus.
"I am Verna," she said, "the outlaw."
Then, to her astonishment, and that of all those watching, saving the Ubar himself, Marlenus took the key to her collar from his pouch. He opened the collar and replaced the key in his pouch. He then removed the collar from her throat and cast it to one side, in the dirt.
She looked up at him; puzzled.
"Hamstring the outlaw," he said...
... Hanging is a not uncommon penalty in the northern forests for outlawry. Another such penalty, not infrequently inflicted, is hamstringing.
---Hunters of Gor, 11:160
I wondered if I might be able to secure a tarn in the intriguing city of Tharna. It would shorten the trip to the Sardar Mountains by weeks. I had no money with which to purchase a tarn but I reasoned my hiring price as a swordsman might be sufficient to purchase a mount. For that matter, though I did not seriously consider the possibility, being without a city, in effect an outlaw, I was entitled in the Gorean way of thinking to take the bird or its purchase price in any way I saw fit.
---Outlaw of Gor, 6:50
#2 Other men believed that men who were caught by Panther Women were weaklings and fools. Perhaps even wanting to be enslaved by the beautiful Panther Woman?
'It is said,' said Samos, 'that only weaklings, and fools, and men who deserve to be slave girls, fall slave to women.'

#3 Panther women did not ask for a monetary ransom of men. Instead they would ask for items that were needed in the forest that the forest could not provide for them.
When dealing with men, however, the girls usually demanded, and received, goods of greater calue to them, usually knives, arrow points, small spear points; sometimes armlets, and bracelets and necklaces, and mirrors; sometimes slave nets and slave traps, to aid in thier hunting; sometimes slave chains, and manacles , to secure thier catches." Hunters of Gor, page 31
#4 Let us assume for some reason the Panther women needed money for something. The average price of a male slave was on the low side.... not 3 gold.
Male slaves, on Gor, are not particularly valuable, and do not command high prices. A high price for a male is a silver tarsk, but even a plain wench, of low caste, provided she moves well to the touch of the auctioneer's coiled whip, will bring as much, or more. An exception to the low prices for males generally is that paid for a certified woman's slave, a handsome male, silken clad, who has been trained to tend a woman's compartments.

Sixteen tarsks was actually a high price to pay for a male silk slave. Most would go from four to six tarsks.
Fighting Slave of Gor - Page 173
Most male slaves in the city were pampered silk slaves, owned by Gorean women who had not yet learned their sex.
Magicians of Gor - Page 71
In some cities , including Ar, an unchained male slave is almost never seen; there are, incidentally, far fewer male slaves than female slaves; a captured female is almost invariably collared; a captured male is almost invariably put to the sword.

Perhaps they believe that because he was from the city he is worth more.... as they refer to him as a "Captive" and not a male slave.
#5 The usual place for trading captives, or slaves, or goods is the LEP. Cities did not send messengers to a Panther Lair....nor did Panther Lairs send messengers to a city to announce thier captive. They went to the LEP....strung the man up on an A-Frame....and waited for the first traders to come along and make with the bidding.
High on the beach, I saw two pairs of sloping beams. They were high, large and heavy structures. The feet of the beams were planted widely, deeply, in the sand; at the top, where they sloped together, they had been joined and pegged. They were rather like the English letter "A," though lacking the crossbar. Within each "A," her wrists bound by wrapped and taut leather to heavy rings set in the sloping sides, there hung a girl, her full weight on her wrists. Each wore the brief skins of the forest panthers. They were panther girls, captured. Their heads were down, their blond hair falling forward. Their ankles had been tied rather widely apart, each fastened by leather to iron rings further down the beams. It was an exchange point. It is thus that outlaws, to passing ships, display their wares.
